Help protect NY Libraries and Library Systems

Sam February 12th, 2010

Help us protect NY’s libraries and library systems. We need to tell the NYS Legislature to reject the $2.4 million cut in Library Aid Governor David Paterson is proposing in the 2010-2011 Executive Budget.

This will be the fifth cut in less than two years and will bring Library Aid down from $102 million in 2007 to $84.5 million in 2010. These cuts combined total an $18 million or 18% reduction in funding for library services. Libraries are part of our safety net—they are essential to life long learning, jobs and opportunity, quality of life and community empowerment.

Children’s Garden

Sam July 1st, 2009

This summer some of our younger patrons are participating in a gardening program.  Under the guidance of Board Member Gail Mitchell, the kids have built and planted a “square foot” garden.  They have planted tomato, beans, peppers, radishes, lettuce, carrots, onions and cucumbers.

Ashleigh, Payson and Jacub harvest radishes from the garden.

Cub Scouts Visit the Library

Sam April 3rd, 2009

On March 3, we were pleased to host the second year Webelos Scouts from AuSable Valley’s Pack 54.  The boys were working on their Communicator Activity Badge.  They had to use our computers to exchange e-mail, look up websites that interested them,  and write a letter to a friend.  They also learned how books are catalogued so that they are easy to find.

Payson writes: “My visit to the library was average, I learned how to e-mail, that was exciting!”

Robert writes: “I had fun visiting the library.  I liked learning how to e-mail and how books are catalogued.”

Bradley writes: “The library is fun.  It was fun getting a book and going on the computer.  It was fun sending e-mails.”
