The New York Library Association has provided this handy calculator to show how valuable libraries are to their communities.

A patron using the library once a month to check out two adult books would save $528 a year.

A patron using the library once a month to check out six movies would save $408 a year.

A patron using the library to download two e-books a month would save $360 a year.

A patron using the wireless internet 15 minutes a day, or 2 hours a week would save $517.40 a year.

A patron using the computer for one hour a week would save $624 a year.
